Prominent Republican senators announced on Friday that they have no intention of obstructing the Democrats’ efforts to replace the late Senator Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat from California, on the Judiciary Committee.

This vacancy has left the Democrats without a majority on this critical panel.

Senator John Cornyn of Texas, a senior Republican member of the Judiciary Committee, stated to NBC News that he has no doubt that Democrats will be able to appoint a successor to her seat on the committee once a new senator takes office.

The passing of Senator Feinstein has resulted in an even split on the key panel responsible for processing President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees, with 10 members from each party, NBC News reported.

In the event of a tie vote, a nominee fails to progress out of the committee, necessitating Democratic support from some GOP members to advance potential judges to the full Senate.

If the vacancy persists, it has the potential to impede a key objective for President Biden.

However, California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, is expected to designate a successor to take Senator Feinstein’s place.

Following this appointment, Democrats will rearrange committee assignments to address the opening on the Judiciary and other committees.
