
A tragic incident unfolded in Venice when a bus carrying numerous passengers veered off an elevated road, plunging a distance of 15 meters (approximately 50 feet).
This catastrophic event resulted in a devastating collision that claimed the lives of 21 individuals and left at least 15 others injured, primarily comprising foreign tourists who were on their way back to a nearby campsite.
The casualties from the Tuesday night crash included a minimum of five Ukrainian citizens, one German national, and the bus’s driver, as reported by the Venice prefecture, the Associated Press reported.
Additionally, at least two of the deceased were children, as revealed by Venice prefect Michele Di Bari, who also noted that a significant portion of those involved in the accident were young individuals.
Hospital officials confirmed that nine people were in critical condition, including a 3-year-old girl from Ukraine.
Firefighters tirelessly worked through the night into Wednesday morning to clear the wreckage, while later in the morning, traffic cautiously navigated the location where the bus breached a guardrail and a weathered fence.
The tragic scene of the accident captured the attention of passersby. A couple of local residents remarked that the overpass had been in existence for more than 60 years, and this calamity was an unprecedented occurrence in the area.
