Chipotle is experimenting with a robotic assembly line in partnership with the food service platform Hyphen. This prototype robot is designed to prepare salads and bowls.

When a digital order includes a salad or bowl, it is directed to the automated system. A container then travels along a conveyor belt, with dispensers adding the requested ingredients.

Towards the end of the process, the system elevates the bowl so that an employee can add the final touches and seal the lid, WWNYTV reported.

According to Chipotle, this system has the potential to handle approximately 65% of its digital orders. However, employees will still be responsible for preparing items like burritos.

In a recent trial, Chipotle also experimented with a robot named Autocado to assist in the preparation of guacamole.

The chain is considering further tests involving dishwashing robots in the near future.
