This marked their first conversation since a surprising reconciliation in March.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman received a call from Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Wednesday.
During this call, they deliberated on “the current military situation in Gaza and its environs”, as stated by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Barrons reported.
Prince Mohammed conveyed to President Raisi that Riyadh is actively engaged in “communicating with all international and regional parties to stop the ongoing escalation”, as reported by SPA.
He also emphasized “the kingdom’s firm position towards supporting the Palestinian cause.”
The Iranian state news agency IRNA also documented the conversation, highlighting that the two leaders talked about the “need to end war crimes against Palestine.”
Hamas launched a surprise assault on Israel the previous Saturday, resulting in a reported 1,200 casualties, with the majority being civilians, according to Israeli authorities.
In response, Gaza officials have reported over 1,000 casualties in Israel’s retaliatory air and artillery strikes.
