A federal judge in Washington, DC, is set to consider the possibility of issuing a gag order against former President Donald Trump in a hearing scheduled for Monday.

Subsequent to two federal indictments brought against the former president, Trump has launched a series of attacks against prosecutors, potential witnesses, and the judge presiding over the election subversion case in Washington.

Special counsel Jack Smith’s prosecutors contend that these comments warrant a limited restriction on Trump’s communication regarding the case, CNN reported.

Judge Tanya Chutkan in Washington, DC, has previously cautioned Trump that statements made by him or his legal team could jeopardize the case.

On social media platforms, Trump has criticized Judge Chutkan as a “biased, Trump Hating Judge” and referred to Jack Smith as “deranged” and a “thug,” along with targeting individual members of Smith’s team.

When Trump initially appeared in Chutkan’s courtroom in late August on charges related to his alleged efforts to subvert the 2020 election results, the judge advised him against making “inflammatory” remarks in the case.

Trump’s legal representatives have criticized the proposed gag order as being fundamentally at odds with his First Amendment rights.

They have also suggested that the order may be a tactic employed by President Joe Biden and the Justice Department to impede Trump’s campaigning abilities.
