Iran issued a warning on Monday of a possible “pre-emptive action” against Israel “in the coming hours,” as Israel prepares for a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip.
Tehran has consistently cautioned that a ground invasion of Gaza could trigger a response from other fronts, raising concerns of a broader conflict that might involve other nations.
In a live broadcast to state TV, Iran’s foreign minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, mentioned his meeting with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Saturday and stated, “The possibility of pre-emptive action by the resistance axis is expected in the coming hours,”
Earlier on Monday, Iran’s top diplomat and president, Ebrahim Raisi, emphasized the need for a political solution and warned against the escalation of the Israel-Hamas conflict into other areas, Barron’s reported.
Amir-Abdollahian also stressed that “the resistance leaders” would not permit Israel to act freely in Gaza, stating, “If we don’t defend Gaza today, tomorrow we have to defend against these (phosphorus) bombs in the children’s hospital of our own country.”
It’s important to note that the mentioned event dates back to October 7, when Israel initiated a military operation against the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas after a breach of Gaza’s border, leading to civilian casualties.
