Astronomers have identified a perplexing surge of radio waves that has traversed a span of 8 billion years to reach Earth.

This fast radio burst stands as one of the most remote and high-energy occurrences ever recorded.

Fast radio bursts, commonly known as FRBs, represent brief, millisecond-long outbursts of radio waves whose origins remain a mystery, CNN reported.

The first FRB was uncovered in 2007, and since then, scientists have detected hundreds of these rapid, enigmatic flashes emanating from various distant locations across the cosmos.

Designated as FRB 20220610A, this burst endured for less than a millisecond.

Yet, during this fleeting moment, it emitted an amount of energy equivalent to what our Sun releases over the course of 30 years.

These findings were detailed in a study published on Thursday in the journal Science.
