On Friday, Republican lawmakers made the decision to withdraw Rep. Jim Jordan as their candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, following his third unsuccessful attempt to secure the position.

The GOP’s next nominee and their chances of gathering enough votes to become the Speaker remain uncertain.

The House has been without a leader for more than two weeks, and no clear resolution is in sight as Congress approaches a deadline to avert a government shutdown, and the White House presses for immediate security assistance for Israel, CNBC reported.

Despite repeated failures in securing support for his bid, Jordan was determined to stay in the race. However, with each successive House vote, the backing for his candidacy continued to dwindle.

On Friday, 25 Republicans voted against Jordan, even though he had the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.

In the previous vote, 22 Republicans opposed his candidacy. Following Jordan’s unsuccessful House floor bid, Republican lawmakers gathered privately to reconsider his nomination, ultimately opting for a vote of no-confidence.
