A Maryland judge was tragically shot and killed in his driveway. Andrew Wilkinson, a judge of the Washington County Circuit Court, was discovered with fatal injuries in Hagerstown on Thursday evening.

His shooting prompted a rapid response from law enforcement to ensure the safety of other judges serving the area.

Wilkinson was urgently transported from his residence to a hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds, as reported by the police.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is currently treating his death as a homicide but has not yet disclosed the identity of a suspect, the Daily Sun reported.

In response to the incident, Maryland State Troopers were dispatched to safeguard other judges, though it remains uncertain if there is an immediate threat to their safety, according to ABC affiliate WJLA.

Video footage captured the scene with police vehicles’ flashing lights and crime scene tape cordoning off the judge’s property.

Earlier on the same day, Washington County Sheriff’s Sergeant Carly Host had mentioned that the agency was investigating a shooting but did not provide further information regarding the incident.

Maryland State Police have also offered their assistance in the ongoing investigation.
