Hamas’ leader and a high-ranking Iranian official engaged in talks last night amidst increasing concerns that the Israel-Gaza conflict could escalate into a broader Middle East confrontation.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian held a phone conversation with Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, and Ziyad al-Nakhala, the head of Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
They discussed ways to halt what he referred to as Israel’s ‘severe actions’ in Gaza, the Daily Mail reported.
For the past two weeks, Israeli airstrikes have been targeting the Gaza Strip, which is under Hamas control, following the incursion by the terrorist group into Israel.
This invasion resulted in the loss of over 1,400 lives and the taking of approximately 200 hostages.
