According to multiple US officials, there is intelligence indicating that Iranian-backed militia groups are planning to increase their attacks against US forces in the Middle East.

This is occurring as Iran aims to exploit the regional backlash against US support for Israel. These militia groups have already carried out several drone attacks on US forces in Iraq and Syria.

The US now possesses specific intelligence suggesting that these same groups may intensify their activities, particularly in light of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

US officials have expressed great concern, with one stating, “red lights flashing everywhere,” in the region, CNN reported.

It is worth noting that, at this point, Iran appears to be providing encouragement to these groups rather than explicitly directing them.

In some cases, Iran is offering guidance to the militia groups, suggesting that they will not face consequences, such as being deprived of weaponry resupplies, if they continue to target US or Israeli interests.

On Monday, National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said there is “a very direct connection between these groups” and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, and he said the US is “deeply concerned about the potential of any significant escalation of these attacks in the days ahead.”
