The Pentagon has dispatched military advisors, including a Marine Corps general with expertise in urban warfare, to assist Israel in its war planning.
In addition, multiple advanced air defense systems are being expedited to the Middle East in anticipation of a ground assault on Gaza.
Leading this assistance is Marine Corps Lt. Gen. James Glynn, who previously played a key role in special operations against the Islamic State and served in the highly intense urban combat in Fallujah, Iraq.
This information comes from a U.S. official who spoke on the condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to discuss Glynn’s involvement, the Associated Press reported.
Lt. Gen. Glynn will also provide guidance on minimizing civilian casualties in urban warfare.
Israel is preparing for a large-scale ground operation in an environment where Hamas militants have spent years preparing tunnel networks and strategically placing traps within the densely populated urban areas of northern Gaza.
