Oregon State University has issued a cautionary notice to its students, urging them to steer clear of all robots and refrain from opening any food delivery robots due to an ongoing bomb threat on campus.
On a Tuesday afternoon, the university in Corvallis, Oregon, issued an alert regarding a bomb threat linked to the Starship food delivery robots.
OSU advised individuals not to interact with the robots and to maintain distance from them “until further notice.”
According to a spokesperson from Starship Industrials, a student at the university had posted a bomb threat on social media concerning Starship’s robots, Fox News reported.
Subsequently, the student claimed it was a prank, but Starship decided to suspend its campus service. The university’s Public Safety division swiftly responded to the threat, as stated by OSU in an update.
Around 4 p.m., OSU confirmed that safety officials were remotely securing the robots in a safe location, and the Department of Public Safety continued its investigation.
Students and residents were asked to remain vigilant for any suspicious activity.
By 5 p.m. on Tuesday evening, OSU reported that the emergency situation had been resolved, although the college did not provide specific details about the bomb threat.
However, they noted that the “robot inspection continues in a secure location.” At 6 p.m., Starship announced in an update that the robots are expected to resume service later that evening.
