During a recent spacewalk, one of the cosmonauts was struck on the visor by a contaminated tether as a pair of International Space Station (ISS) crew members ventured outside the station to investigate a radiator with a leak.
The spacewalk was broadcast live on NASA TV, and the astronauts had multiple tasks to complete, with the focal point being the investigation of the radiator leak that had occurred earlier in the month on the Nauka module.
Cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub were assigned the task of examining and isolating the coolant leak, which necessitated closing the valves to disconnect the radiator from the cooling system, the Register reported.
Although frozen crystals had been observed dispersing into space, initially, the cosmonauts could not locate the source of the leak on the connecting line.
However, they eventually identified traces of the issue at the junction of the radiator panels.
