In Tampa, Florida, a man has been apprehended in connection with a mass shooting that occurred during early Sunday’s Halloween festivities. According to the police, the incident resulted in two fatalities and 18 injuries.

The shooting unfolded just before 3 a.m. in the Ybor City area, as disclosed by Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw during a press conference at the scene.

Later on Sunday, it was reported that detectives had arrested Tyrell Stephen Phillips, a 22-year-old individual, in connection with the shooting. Phillips faced charges of second-degree murder with a firearm.

Initially, authorities had stated that one suspect was in custody, and at least one other individual was being pursued, the Associated Press reported.

However, as of Sunday afternoon, Chief Bercaw had not confirmed whether additional suspects were being sought following Phillips’ arrest.

“My heart goes out to the families,” Bercaw said in a news briefing posted online. He called the gun violence “extremely tragic” and said police would not tolerate it.
