Boston Dynamics has harnessed ChatGPT to instill a diverse range of personalities in its robotic dog, Spot, empowering it to engage in conversations with people, provide insights about its surroundings, and adapt its behavior in real-time.
Leveraging this extensive language model, Spot can now comprehend and respond to queries, identify and elucidate objects in its environment, and independently strategize actions based on different situations.
This innovative project effectively transforms Spot into a “chat (ro)bot,” merging the advancements of generative AI with the dynamic realm of robotics, IOT World Today reported.
In a captivating video showcasing Spot’s enhanced capabilities, the robot takes on the role of a tour guide, exhibiting various personas such as a British butler, a 1920s archaeologist, a teenager, and even a Shakespearean actor.
To complete this transformation, a new articulating “mouth” has been integrated into Spot’s design, enabling it to move in synchrony with its speech, akin to the movements of a puppet’s mouth, as described by the company.
