Microsoft has enlisted Sam Altman to drive its advancements in artificial intelligence, following his removal as the CEO of OpenAI in a tumultuous boardroom upheaval on Friday.

Concurrently, the ChatGPT company is set to undergo its third CEO transition in as many days.

This upheaval represents a significant shift in the dynamics of artificial intelligence, a technology that stands as one of the most groundbreaking in recent decades.

Greg Brockman, another co-founder of OpenAI and its main financial supporter, is also making the move to Microsoft. Brockman stepped down as OpenAI president in the aftermath of Altman’s dismissal.

Emmett Shear, the former CEO of Amazon’s streaming service Twitch, will assume the role of interim CEO at OpenAI, succeeding Mira Murati, CNN reported.

Murati, who served as interim CEO after Altman’s termination, will revert to her position as OpenAI’s chief technology officer.

As OpenAI’s largest stakeholder with a $13 billion investment, Microsoft has solidified its influence. In the wake of this, Sam Altman is slated to lead the “new group,” as mentioned by Nadella in his statement.

Microsoft’s shares experienced a roughly 2% increase in premarket trading on Monday.
