The House faces a deadline of Thursday to cast its vote on the expulsion of Rep. George Santos (R-NY), following the filing of a privileged resolution by Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) on Tuesday to remove the embattled Republican.
The privileged nature of Garcia’s resolution allows the House a two-legislative-day window to vote on this significant resolution.
This historic expulsion vote comes several weeks after the House Ethics Committee released a damning report following its investigations into Santos, Breitbart News reported.
Notably, this vote is taking place before Santos, a colorful New Yorker, has had the chance to address the charges against him in court.
“It’s time for truth and justice to be restored to the U.S. House of Representatives,” said Garcia. “I’ve joined forces with Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) to force another expulsion vote against George Santos.”
Goldman gained prominence as the primary Democratic attorney in the initial attempt to impeach Trump, an impeachment widely perceived by Republicans as politically driven.
During a Thanksgiving break Twitter/X Space session, Santos openly acknowledged the near certainty of his expulsion.
Just days before, Rep. Michael Guest (R-MS), the chair of the ethics committee, had introduced a resolution seeking Santos’s expulsion.
