In the early hours of Sunday, a man armed with a steak knife tragically took the lives of four members of his extended family, including two children, in a home located in the Queens borough of New York City.
The New York City Police Department reported that a distressing call from a girl in Queens’ Far Rockaway neighborhood alerted them to the ongoing incident, stating that “her cousin is killing her family members.”
Upon responding to the scene, the 38-year-old suspect stabbed two police officers, both of whom were later hospitalized but expected to recover.
Subsequently, one of the officers shot the suspect dead. Authorities revealed that the suspect had a prior arrest related to a domestic violence incident, Reuters reported.
The victims of the stabbing included a 12-year-old boy, an 11-year-old girl, a 44-year-old woman, and a man in his 30s.
The 11-year-old was discovered outside the house, while the other three victims were found inside bedrooms.
Additionally, a fifth person, a 61-year-old woman, sustained stab wounds and was in critical condition in the hospital.
The suspect added another layer of danger by setting fire to a couch in the home’s living room, compelling law enforcement to await the arrival of the fire department before entering the residence.
