On Saturday, House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed confidence that Republicans possess sufficient votes to initiate an official impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
“I believe we will,” Johnson told Fox News of a GOP-led impeachment inquiry. “I suspect no Democrats will assist in this effort, but they should.”
Johnson added Republicans “have a duty to do this” and “we cannot stop the process.”
On Friday, Republican leadership and crucial GOP committee chairs presented their rationale for the perceived need for an inquiry vote, CNN reported.
They asserted that such a vote would enhance their legal position in court, alleging that the White House was impeding their investigation into the president and his son’s foreign business engagements—a contention vehemently refuted by the White House.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, joined by House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, emphasized that the inquiry wouldn’t be wielded as a partisan political instrument.
