Astronomers have uncovered an unusual family of six planets located approximately 100 light years away from Earth.

These exoplanets are larger than Earth but smaller than Neptune, placing them in a category known as sub-Neptunes, commonly observed around sun-like stars in the Milky Way.

What distinguishes this discovery is that the planetary system exhibits resonance, indicating that the six planets engage in a celestial dance, aligning every few orbits as they orbit their sun, KPTV Fox 12 reported.

Adding to the rarity, the system has experienced minimal changes since its formation over one billion years ago.

This revelation holds the potential to enhance our understanding of planet evolution and the origins of prevalent sub-Neptunes within our galaxy. The findings were published in the journal Nature on Wednesday.
