The head of Meta AI, Yann LeCun, shared his perspectives on the state of artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing across the industry during a recent event commemorating the 10-year anniversary of Meta’s Fundamental Artificial Intelligence Research (FAIR) team.
LeCun addressed several key points, including Nvidia’s dominant position in the AI hardware industry, the likelihood of achieving human-level AI in the near future, and Meta’s current stance on not actively pursuing quantum computing alongside its competitors.
LeCun has consistently articulated his views on the timeline for achieving so-called human-level AI, asserting the necessity of first achieving milestones akin to “dog” and “cat” level AI, Coin Telegraph reported.
However, he refrains from providing specific predictions on when these foundational milestones will be realized.
In contrast, Elon Musk recently made a bold prediction, foreseeing the emergence of a “Digital God” within the next 3 to 5 years.
