Multiple people shot at Iowa high school on first day after winter break

A shooting incident occurred inside a small-town Iowa high school on the early morning of Thursday as students were getting ready for their first day back to classes after the annual winter break, authorities reported.

According to a law enforcement official who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly disclose investigation details, the suspect in the Perry, Iowa shooting has died from what investigators believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Additionally, the official mentioned that among the victims, at least one is identified as a school administrator.

Ambulances transported two individuals with gunshot injuries to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, the state capital, according to a spokesperson from the health system, the Associated Press reported.

Additionally, some other patients were taken to a second hospital in Des Moines, as confirmed by a spokesperson from MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.

The spokesperson refrained from providing details on the number of patients or their current conditions.
