Twenty-four individuals sustained injuries, and hundreds were evacuated following a collision between two subway trains on the Upper West Side Thursday afternoon, resulting in the derailment of both trains, according to officials.

The incident occurred when a northbound 1 train, carrying up to 500 passengers, was departing from the 96th Street station after 3 p.m.

It collided with another disabled 1 train, leading to the derailment of both trains, as per information from police sources.

The disabled train was undergoing repairs due to vandalism, where an individual had activated the emergency brake cords in multiple cars, according to MTA officials, the New York Post reported.

At the time of the collision, four MTA workers were on board attempting to reset the brakes, but no passengers were present.

Authorities confirmed that at least 24 people suffered minor injuries and were subsequently transported to local hospitals.
