Arizona is currently experiencing its coldest weekend of the season, leading to significant impacts on its roadways. Due to winter weather-related incidents, several highways have been temporarily closed.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory for higher elevations in Gila, Maricopa, and Pinal counties, effective through Sunday evening.

Phoenix is expecting low temperatures this week that haven’t been seen since 2019. Additionally, parts of metro Phoenix may experience pea-sized hail on Sunday, as per the NWS.

Winter weather-related crashes and slide-offs led to the closure of State Route 87 at Bush Highway, a route connecting Mesa and Payson, from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m, KTAR News reported.

Payson, situated in the Arizona high country stretch from Flagstaff to Show Low, is anticipated to receive six to eight inches of snow due to the ongoing winter storm.
