Morrisons has deployed ‘robocop’ cameras in supermarket aisles to deter customers from stealing high-value alcohol.
Branded Safer Pod S1s have been strategically placed next to alcoholic beverages to combat the rising issue of shoplifting across Britain.
These stationary safety devices, resembling four-legged robots, feature HD cameras and an advanced 120db siren system to alert against potential thieves.
Powered by a solar panel battery, these devices are mobile and can be relocated to address specific problem areas within the store.
They are operated by a control room through a dedicated app, the U.S. Sun reported.
Morrisons is currently evaluating the outcomes of their trial, conducted in “a handful” of stores during the Christmas period.
In one instance, a CCTV monitoring station was observed positioned next to premium whisky on Monday, accompanied by a warning that read, “we’re keeping an eye on things to keep your store safe.”
