On Tuesday, the US military initiated new strikes against Houthi targets within Yemen. The focus was on neutralizing anti-ship ballistic missiles under the control of the Iran-backed Houthi rebel group.

US forces successfully destroyed four such missiles that posed an imminent threat to both merchant and US Navy vessels in the area, according to two US defense officials.

However, a few hours later, the Houthis launched an anti-ship ballistic missile into international shipping lanes in the Southern Red Sea, targeting the M/V Zografia, a Maltese flagged bulk carrier.

Fortunately, the ship sustained minimal damage and was able to proceed with its journey. US Central Command confirmed these new strikes and the attack on the M/V Zografia in a statement later on Tuesday, CNN reports.

These developments occur amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, coupled with concerns that the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza may escalate and impact the broader region.
