2 dead, including suspect, and 2 police officers wounded in Florida shootout

On Sunday afternoon, in Palm Bay, Florida, two individuals lost their lives, and two police officers sustained injuries while responding to a domestic disturbance call, as reported by local authorities.

Upon arrival, the officers confronted a 24-year-old armed man, identified as Brandon Kapas, according to Palm Bay Police Chief Mariano Augello in a Sunday news conference.

Police revealed that Kapas, refusing to comply with officers’ commands, engaged in an exchange of gunfire with the officers shortly thereafter.

The officers were injured during the confrontation as the suspect fled the scene, as outlined in the police news release, CNN reported.

“Additional officers responded to the area and pursued the suspect who fatally wounded another person before being engaged by law enforcement and subsequently killed,” the release said.

“Our officers did what they were trained to do. And that’s to neutralize and stop a threat to our community,” Augello said. The suspect was killed after engaging the officers “with lethal force,” the chief said.

The authorities have not released the names of the deceased victim or the injured officers to the public.

The two officers who were shot are being treated “at a local hospital – they are going to survive,” Augello said.
