Russia and China warn against ‘cycle of retaliation’

Russia and China swiftly came to the aid of their ally Iran, urging the United States to exercise restraint in response to the killing of three American soldiers.

The U.S. has pledged retaliation for a drone attack on a Jordanian base, heightening concerns of an escalating conflict in the Middle East.

The strike on the Tower 22 base, attributed to Iran-backed militants, has prompted domestic calls for a robust and forceful response from U.S. President Joe Biden.

However, in an apparent effort to mitigate the anticipated American retaliation against Iran, both Russia and China have called for de-escalation in the region, the Daily Mail reported.

When questioned on potential U.S. strikes on Iranian interests, the Kremlin stated on Tuesday that tensions in the Middle East were already high, emphasizing the need for measures to de-escalate rather than destabilize the broader region, which is currently witnessing intense conflicts in Gaza.

On Tuesday, China also issued a warning against perpetuating a ‘cycle of retaliation’ in the volatile region.
