Parents turn in escaped 17-year-old Louisiana inmate who was being held on attempted murder charges

Authorities announced on Sunday that an escaped 17-year-old inmate, facing attempted murder charges in Louisiana, has been apprehended after his parents turned him in.

Kimmy Dauntain Jr., a resident of Orleans Parish, had escaped while on an escorted trip in Franklin, Louisiana, on Friday, leading to a three-day manhunt conducted by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Dauntain’s parents facilitated his surrender to Louisiana State Police custody on Sunday morning, as stated in a news release from the Office of Juvenile Justice, CNN reported.

The teen was originally held on charges including simple battery, illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile, attempted first-degree murder, and attempted second-degree murder (accessory after the fact).

This incident follows recent escapes from police custody in Pennsylvania and Arkansas. In Arkansas, Noah Roush, 22, and Jatonia Bryant, 23, briefly eluded authorities after fleeing the Dub Brassell Adult Detention Center in Pine Bluff on January 22.

Roush, a homicide suspect, was captured three days later, while Bryant, held for capital murder, was apprehended on January 29, concluding a multi-day manhunt initiated due to failed head counts by jail staff.
