A man, accused of evading a traffic stop on a Florida interstate, now faces multiple homicide charges following a tragic incident where a state trooper and a semi-truck driver lost their lives during the ensuing pursuit, as announced by authorities.
The incident unfolded in St. Lucie County early Friday when Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Zachary Fink, 26, attempted to apprehend a fleeing felon driving recklessly.
Despite Fink’s efforts, the suspect refused to stop and initiated a pursuit. The situation took a devastating turn when the suspect abruptly changed direction, driving against traffic on the interstate.
In an attempt to apprehend the suspect and warn other drivers, Fink also turned around.
Tragically, a collision occurred between Fink’s vehicle and an 18-wheeler semi-truck, resulting in the fatalities of both Fink and the truck driver, ABC News reported.
Subsequently, the suspect crashed his car into a tree and fled on foot. A manhunt ensued, leading to the suspect’s apprehension around 8 a.m. on Friday.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Michael Anthony Addison, has been booked into the St. Lucie County Jail on various charges, including multiple counts of felony homicide, aggravated flee to elude with serious injury or death, and driving without a license causing death, among other offenses, as stated by the Florida Highway Patrol on Saturday.
