On Tuesday, former Chilean President Sebastian Pinera tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash in the southern part of the country, according to local news outlet La Tercera.
Government sources, as reported by La Tercera, indicated that the helicopter was carrying four individuals, with three of them located by first responders after the crash.
Chile’s national disaster agency, SENAPRAD, confirmed the occurrence of the helicopter crash in the southern town of Lago Ranco, revealing that one person had been fatally injured, and three others sustained injuries.
The government has not yet disclosed the identities of those on board.
Sebastian Pinera, aged 74, served as Chile’s president from 2010 to 2014 and then again from 2018 to 2022, CNN reported.
The crash happened amid widespread rainfall in the region, although it remains unclear whether the adverse weather conditions played a role in the incident.
