Hamas Military Compound Found Beneath UN Agency HQ

Located deep beneath the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) headquarters for Palestinians, there is an alleged Hamas complex with rows of computer servers, identified by Israel’s armed forces as a crucial communications center and intelligence hub for the Islamist militant group.

Situated within a network of tunnels and subterranean chambers carved from the sandy soil of Gaza, the compound appears to have utilized electricity from the UN’s power supply.

During a recent visit organized by Israel’s military, journalists observed the site, which also featured a tunnel passing beneath a U.N.-run school near the headquarters.

Israeli officials argue that the discovery of a Hamas military installation under key UN facilities provides evidence of the group using civilian infrastructure as shields for its militant activities.

Similar tunnel complexes have been found near or under some of Gaza’s major hospitals, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The revelation of Hamas operations below UNRWA offices is expected to increase scrutiny on the agency, already under international attention following Israeli claims of links between at least 12 of its employees and Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel, resulting in an alleged 1,200 casualties.

Israeli military officials assert that individuals working at UNRWA should have been aware of the tunnel complex, either during its construction or due to a noticeable increase in electricity usage when the complex became operational.
