On Wednesday, the national security adviser at the White House, along with prominent lawmakers on Capitol Hill, sought to ease public concerns following a warning from the House Intelligence Committee chairman about a “national security threat.”
The chairman emphasized a “destabilizing foreign military capability” so significant that President Joe Biden should declassify “all information” regarding it.
According to two sources familiar with Capitol Hill discussions, the intelligence pertains to Russia’s intent to deploy a nuclear weapon into space.
The purpose would not be to target Earth but potentially to use against satellites, ABC News reported.
Although not directly addressing the matter, several members of Congress promptly acknowledged the seriousness of the issue without intending to cause public alarm.
One source labeled it “very concerning and very sensitive,” emphasizing its magnitude.
