Estonia thwarts ‘hybrid operation’ by Kremlin special forces in NATO territory

Today, the Prime Minister of Estonia asserted that the nation successfully prevented a “hybrid operation” on NATO territory orchestrated by Russian operatives.

According to local media reports, individuals affiliated with Russian special services were allegedly responsible for an attack on an Estonian minister’s vehicle last year.

In a short statement issued on social media today, Estonia’s Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said: “Estonia has successfully stopped a hybrid operation by Russia’s security services on our territory.”

“We know the Kremlin is targeting all of our democratic societies. Our answer: be open and reveal their methods. This is the way to deter harmful actions and make us resilient,” Prime Minister Kallas said.

The Prime Minister of Estonia posted a link to a news article from ERR News, the English-language branch of Estonian Public Broadcasting, the Independent reported.

According to the report, Estonia’s Internal Security Service (ISS) has successfully identified the individuals responsible for vandalizing vehicles owned by the interior minister and a journalist last year.

As part of the criminal investigation, a total of 10 individuals have been apprehended, and according to ERR, the Estonian Internal Security Service (ISS) now contends that they were acting on behalf of the Russian special services.
