California closes Miracle Hot Spring after another dead body found floating in water

A popular hot spring in Sequoia National Forest, California, known for its alleged ‘healing minerals,’ is being compelled to close following the discovery of a body floating in the water.

The Forest Service has officially confirmed the finding of a body at Miracle Hot Springs on February 17, marking the second occurrence of such incidents within the past 18 months.

The previous incident involved the discovery of a body on October 17, 2022. While the victims remain unidentified, the Forest Service is taking additional precautions, despite objections from the hot springs’ operators, who have pledged a protest involving ‘civil disobedience.’

“With a second death that can be attributed in part to the hot springs, the area will remain closed until a sustainable long-term solution is reached,” said District Ranger Al Watson, the Daily Mail reported.

Following the death in 2022, authorities had initially disassembled the tubs. However, they were reconstructed without official approval.

The region, situated along the Kern River, faced accessibility challenges due to winter and spring flooding, which persisted until river levels receded.

The closure now prohibits entry to the springs, tubs, and the entire surrounding area, positioned at an elevation of 2,300 feet within the forest, approximately 150 miles north of Los Angeles.
