Semi removed after dangling off Louisville bridge for several hours, driver rescued from cab

On Friday afternoon, a semi found itself teetering on the edge of the Clark Memorial/2nd Street bridge following a collision involving multiple vehicles.

Just before 6:45 p.m., emergency crews successfully hoisted the semi from its precarious position onto the bridge.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reported that the semi was towed away from the Clark Memorial Bridge shortly before 8 p.m.

Following the removal of the semi, KYTC engineers initiated an inspection of the bridge.

The crash, involving a total of four vehicles, occurred around 12:04 p.m., resulting in the semi being pushed over the edge with a person trapped in the cab, WLKY reported.

Authorities revealed that at least one individual suffered life-threatening injuries. Rescue teams managed to extract the female driver after approximately 40 minutes.

Using rappelling techniques, a rescuer descended to her location, and both were safely lifted back up using rope and pulley systems, returning to the bridge by 12:45 p.m.

Louisville Fire reported that the woman, identified as a military veteran, expressed gratitude and relief upon returning to solid ground. Despite being shaken, she appeared to be in stable condition.
