The Tesla Gigafactory in Grünheide near Berlin underwent evacuation on Tuesday due to a significant power outage.
The extremist group “Volcano Group,” identified as left-wing, claimed responsibility for disrupting the power grid that supplies the car manufacturer.
In a letter, the Volcano Group declared their sabotage of Tesla, specifically targeting the electricity supply.
Initially suspected as arson, the police were investigating a fire at an electricity pylon.
The State of Brandenburg’s Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU) characterized the incident as a “perfidious attack” on the electricity infrastructure, the DW reported.
The Ministry reported that unknown individuals had set fire to a high-voltage pylon between Steinfurt and Hartmannsdorf early on Tuesday morning.
Environmental activists, who opposed the factory’s expansion, had announced plans to occupy the nearby forest for a week in protest the previous week.
It’s noteworthy that this facility is the sole factory operated by billionaire Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company in Europe.
