Massive Michigan industrial fire sparks hundreds of explosions, sending debris flying and killing 1

A Detroit suburb was rocked by numerous explosions stemming from a fire in an industrial building on Monday night, resulting in the tragic death of a 19-year-old, as reported by multiple sources.

Clinton Township Fire Department Chief Tim Duncan confirmed on Tuesday morning that the young victim lost their life after being struck by a projectile from the explosive incident, according to WXYZ.

The fire ignited at approximately 8:40 p.m. at the premises of Select Distributors, located at 19100 15 Mile Road.

The company is known for housing nitrous oxide tanks, as well as novelty items and general merchandise, according to the Detroit Free Press.

News helicopter footage revealed a large, intense orange blaze with periodic bursts resembling explosions within the inferno, Fox News reported.

WXYZ detailed the occurrence of numerous small explosions inside the building, with canisters exploding and projecting outward. One of these canisters even penetrated the windshield of a fire truck, injuring a firefighter.

Prompted by the severity of the situation, both the Clinton Township Police Department and Clinton Township Fire Department sought assistance from local police and fire agencies.

Additionally, they called upon the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for support, citing the known presence of combustible materials at the affected business.
