Controversial and disgraced former congressman George Santos, known for his tendency to fabricate stories, surprisingly announced his candidacy for Congress during Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.
Facing federal criminal charges, Santos, who was expelled from the House in December 2023, declared his intention to challenge Representative Nick LaLota in #NY1, despite criticism from LaLota, who had played a role in Santos’ removal.
Santos, currently facing charges including wire fraud and money laundering, attended the State of the Union, sparking social media outrage about his presence and questioning the privileges allowing him on the House floor, The Guardian reported.
The ex-representative of New York’s third congressional district informed Semafor that he intends to submit his candidacy with the Federal Election Commission on Friday and has future plans to relocate to New York’s first congressional district in the coming weeks.
Santos’ bid to re-enter Congress is merely the latest step in his ongoing endeavors since departing from office.
