On Friday, Former Vice President Mike Pence made it clear that he won’t be backing his former colleague for the presidency in the upcoming 2024 election.
Speaking on Fox News, Pence stated, “I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year,” underscoring his decision.
Pence’s stance coincides with Trump’s recent attainment of sufficient Republican delegates, solidifying his nomination within the party.
Trump “is pursuing and articulating an agenda that is at odds with the conservative agenda that we governed on during our four years,” said Pence, CNBC reported.
“As I have watched his candidacy unfold, I’ve seen him walking away from our commitment to confronting the national debt,” Pence said. “I’ve seen him starting to shy away from a commitment to the sanctity of human life.”
Pence initiated his own presidential bid, competing against Trump and a crowded field of Republican contenders.
However, in October 2023, he withdrew from the race as his campaign failed to resonate with GOP primary voters.
