A 78-year-old woman faces a multitude of suspected charges following a tragic incident over the weekend at the West Portal Muni bus stop in San Francisco, where her SUV collided with three members of the same family, resulting in their deaths.
Mary Fong Lau was taken into custody on Sunday, as indicated by jail records, under suspicion of three felony counts, including vehicular manslaughter, driving in the wrong direction, reckless driving, and speeding.
Efforts to contact her or her legal representative on Monday morning proved fruitless.
As of Monday, the District Attorney had not pressed charges against her, citing that the fatal crash occurred on Saturday afternoon.
A man claiming to be the driver’s brother declined to appear on camera but expressed profound devastation over the incident, KTVU Fox 2 reported.
He recounted his unsuccessful attempt to visit his sister in the hospital post-accident, being informed that communication was prohibited due to the ongoing criminal investigation.
He remains clueless about the circumstances leading to his sister’s involvement in the crash.
At the scene of the tragedy, three pairs of shoes serve as poignant reminders, while passersby continue to leave floral tributes and stuffed animals.
