Early Sunday, twin 19-year-old sisters endured a harrowing ordeal at a Brooklyn deli, resulting in one sister tragically losing her life and the other being hospitalized for treatment, according to police and eyewitnesses.
Authorities disclosed in a brief statement that Samiya Spain succumbed to a stab wound to her chest. Her sister, identified through media reports as Saniya, sustained an arm injury but was reported to be in stable condition, as per police reports.
Recounting the incident to the New York Daily News on Sunday night, Saniya, the surviving sister, revealed that they had momentarily stepped out from a family games night to grab some snacks when the assailant approached them.
The attack unfolded around 2:20 a.m. within the confines of the Natural Plus deli in the Park Slope neighborhood, situated at the intersection of Saint Mark’s Place and 4th Avenue, merely a short distance from Spain’s residence on Nevins Street.
Emergency medical services swiftly transported both sisters to the New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where one was pronounced deceased, NBC News reported.
“There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing at this time,” police added.
