Saint Joseph’s Medical Center welcomes new orthopedic surgical team and ARTHUR robot

As part of its newly established orthopedic practice, Saint Joseph’s Medical Center has introduced its cutting-edge surgical robot, named ARTHUR.

Utilizing Stryker’s MakoTM Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology, ARTHUR specializes in performing robotic-assisted orthopedic surgeries, including partial and total knee replacements, as well as total hip replacements.

This introduction marks a significant advancement in the hospital’s commitment to enhancing its orthopedic services, particularly with the integration of Southern Westchester Orthopedics and Sports Medicine into Saint Joseph’s Medical Practice, PC.

The leadership of this new orthopedic practice is helmed by renowned orthopedic surgeons David Lent and Eric Spencer, the Bronx Times reported.

ARTHUR, an acronym for Advanced Robotic Technology for Human Ultra-precise orthopedic Reconstruction, was named following a contest organized by Saint Joseph’s Medical Center, which garnered hundreds of entries from local residents.

The winning submission came from Thomas Melillo, the director of communications and public relations at the medical center.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano joined the hospital’s welcoming event on March 13 to greet the new orthopedic team and meet ARTHUR in person.
