Houthi Cruise Missile Hits Israel

Yemen’s Houthi rebels have asserted responsibility for the launch of a cruise missile from the Red Sea, which landed in close proximity to Eilat, marking the first instance of a projectile fired from the Iranian-backed group reaching Israeli territory.

The Iran-aligned militants have been engaged in a series of drone and missile launches targeting international commercial shipping in the region since November.

They claim these actions are in solidarity with Palestinians amidst Israel’s military operations in Gaza.

Previously, missiles and drones launched from Yemen had primarily targeted neighboring countries or were intercepted by air defenses, Newsweek reported.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on Tuesday that they had detected a “suspicious aerial target,” later confirmed to be a cruise missile, as per The Times of Israel.

Fortunately, no injuries or damages were reported from the incident. Newsweek has reached out to the IDF for further comment.
