Idaho police search for escaped inmate and accomplice after ambush at Boise hospital

On Wednesday, a white supremacist member of an Idaho prison gang, along with an accomplice, remained at large following a bold overnight assault aimed at freeing the inmate as he was being transported from a Boise hospital, according to authorities.

The individual suspected of perpetrating the attack, Nicholas Umphenour, has been identified by police.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest, with a bond set at $2 million, on charges including two counts of aggravated battery against law enforcement and one count of aiding and abetting an escape.

The search continues for Umphenour and the escaped inmate, Skylar Meade, who fled the hospital in a gray 2020 Honda Civic with Idaho plates in the early hours of Wednesday.

Their current whereabouts and intended destination remain unknown, as per law enforcement, the Associated Press reported.

During the ambush in the ambulance bay at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, three corrections officers were shot and wounded.

Two of the officers were allegedly shot by Umphenour, while one was injured by responding police.

Meade, aged 31, is described as a member of a white supremacist gang and was sentenced to 20 years in 2017 for firing at a sheriff’s sergeant during a high-speed pursuit.
