Several states, including California, Rhode Island, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington, are planning to ban the sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035 under the Advanced Clean Cars II legislation.
This legislation aims to shift towards zero-emission vehicles, with targets set for increasing sales of electric vehicles (EVs) over the next decade.
While other states have adopted similar legislation, they haven’t committed to a complete ban by 2035.
The federal government also announced plans to phase out gas cars by 2032, with requirements for automakers to reduce emissions, the Daily Mail reported.
Meanwhile, carmakers are increasing production of electric and hybrid vehicles, with some aiming for a full transition to EV sales by 2035.
Despite this, there are regional disparities in EV adoption, with some areas like California leading the market while others lag behind.
Hybrid vehicles are currently selling faster than both electric and gas cars, and recent federal regulations have emphasized their role in reducing emissions.
