Japan’s Kishida warns world at ‘historic turning point’

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida highlighted the significance of spiraling geopolitical tensions, describing it as a “historic turning point” that demands Japan to reassess its defense posture.

In anticipation of a crucial summit with US President Joe Biden, Kishida emphasized Japan’s decision to bolster its defense capabilities in response to various global challenges, including Russia’s actions in Ukraine, instability in the Middle East, and tensions in East Asia.

Stressing the growing importance of the Japan-United States alliance amid mounting security challenges, Kishida expressed hope for bipartisan support in Washington.

The upcoming meeting with Biden is seen as an opportunity to strengthen the alliance and address regional threats, such as North Korea’s weapons testing and China’s assertiveness, CNN reported.

Under Kishida’s leadership, Japan has heightened its involvement in global and regional security, enhancing its partnership with the United States.
