Senate Dems plan to quickly ‘dispose’ of Mayorkas trial

Senate Democrats are aiming to swiftly address the House’s impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, with plans to conclude proceedings as soon as possible on Thursday.

Senator Debbie Stabenow emphasized the political nature of the impeachment, stating that Democrats will handle it with the necessary seriousness but aim to dispose of it promptly.

The proceedings are expected to include speeches and votes on procedural matters, with leaders intending to move swiftly to end the trial, possibly through a motion to table it, Politico has reported.

Senate Minority Whip John Thune noted Republican unity on advancing the trial, though Senator Mitt Romney expressed skepticism about the impeachment’s grounds and suggested a summary conclusion might be more appropriate.

Republicans aim to highlight border issues rather than targeting Mayorkas directly.
