A Wisconsin judge has denied the release of Morgan Geyser, who was convicted of brutally stabbing a classmate as a child in an attempt to please the fictional character Slender Man.
Geyser, now 21, requested release from a mental institution but was deemed a risk by the judge due to concerns about harming herself or others.
In 2018, Geyser was sentenced to 40 years in a mental hospital for the stabbing of her sixth-grade classmate Payton Leutner.
The attack, orchestrated with another peer when they were all 12 years old, left Leutner with 19 stab wounds.
Geyser’s request for release was supported by testimony from psychologists who noted her improvement and the limitations of the institution’s services, NBC News reported.
However, the judge ruled against release, citing ongoing concerns.
Geyser’s accomplice, Anissa Weier, was sentenced to 25 years in a mental institution but was released under strict conditions in 2021 after a ruling that she no longer posed a threat.
